The Maryland Chamber Winds seeks to enrich our community through high-quality performances of contemporary and classical wind chamber music, educational programs, and commissioning projects. MCW emphasizes accessibility in all of the musical opportunities we share with Washington and Frederick counties of Maryland. Our goal is to provide music and educational experiences to an art-loving population in their communities and homes, and encourage the growth of the arts in these areas.
Who we are
The Maryland Chamber Winds, or MCW, is a modular, professional wind ensemble of fourteen musicians who perform in flexible combinations of instrumentation, which range from small chamber pieces to works for the full ensemble. Based in the communities of Frederick and Hagerstown, we seek to enrich our community through high-quality performances of wind chamber music, educational programs, commissioning projects, the annual Maryland Wind Festival, and our inaugural Cumberland Valley Conducting Summit. Frederick and Hagerstown serve as an ideal setting for us as growing cities with vibrant cultural scenes and diverse audiences.
Our international Faculty Artists bring their love for performance and their years of instrumental teaching for an intensive week of concerts, education, and outreach. In addition to preserving the standard repertoire, MCW also aims to support the growth and awareness of new music through engaging with composers. We aim to develop our community by presenting performances in both traditional and non-traditional spaces, and we encourage our audience to ask questions and interact with us and with each other. We view our events as both artistic and social gatherings. We hope you’ll come and be a part of our MCW family.
